At first there were flowers
And then there were none
At first there was love
Then it was all gone
At first there was darkness
And then there was light
At first there was peace
And then began trouble and strife.
At first I was proud
And then I was scared
At first I was loud
And then only sat and I stared.
At first I was dirty
With the nightingale's song
Then I stood under the shower
While my heart stuttered and longed!
At first I thought that I might like the test
To pit myself against a riddle
And find the treasure in the chest.
Then I realized everything was cursed
With the Original Knowledge
Set out in that old starting verse . . .
That said at first there was darkness
And then there was only some
At first there was nothing
Not even the sun
Only the thought that floated
Up way on high
Singing
I am what I am and what I am
Is the Eye!
Somewhere below the shadows
Of the moon
Somewhere where all hearts do swoon
Somewhere under the branches of a tree
Sits a reverse double blind negative of me
Watching the children play summer's games
Where the water meets the the shore
Of a sweet perfect day.
I hope to get back there, to that happy scene
And plant myself some happiness
And drive away winter's solitary scream.
At first there were flowers,
And then there were none
At first there was joy
And then all the joy was gone
At first I thought I might find
Myself some peace
Then I realized I was hidden under
The Ram's golden fleece.
At first there were flowers
And then there were none
I sacrificed their petals
To the burden of the sun.
