Silly Folk Song: Nothing New

I used to write songs all the time and never anything else….Now I write everything else…and never write songs! I sat down with the guitar and wrote this in about five minutes. I had a blast and hope it makes someone else smile too. All words, music and playing by me.

It wouldn't be anything new
If I was to say
You don't miss what you've got
Until it's gone
And every sun that rises
On every single day
Witnesses me singing
The same sad song:

I sing
Smoke em if you got 'em
Throw that dog a bone
Kiss the children for me
And every heart is
Looking for a home
And every cupboard is empty
When company comes to call
And don't forget what comes
Before a fall.

I know that people leave
Without saying their goodbyes
And what good is farewell anyway?
How can you wave off
Another pair of eyes
That you looked into with
Devotion every day?

I sing:
There's is whiskey in the jar
But not a drop to drink,
I sing the shoals of herring
Are swimming in my sink
And white rabbits come
A knocking upon perception's
Rickety old door
but they don't use the
House key anymore!

Oh every ounce of trust
Is made to be broken
And every promise rusts under the gold
And saying that love lasts forever
Gets old real quick
When hearts are ruled by
The carrot and the stick.

I sing:
Freedom is light
But the burden is heavy
And sailing down the river
Is bound to get ya wet and dirty
And every sailor knows
The silver and the gold
Will weigh you down to
Drowning every time.

Dead things float much better
Than the living anyway
Balloons are made to be
Popped and to fly
And in every ointment
There is corruption and mess
And love doesn't always end
With death.

I sing:
There are diamond's in the mine
But not a rock to smoke
I was born with a spoon of silver
But life is just a joke
And every clown upon
Every shining stage
Wishes they were a rock
Star every day!

It wouldn't be anything new
If I was to say
You don't miss what you've got
Until it's gone
And every sun that rises
On every single day
Witnesses me singing
The same sad song.
