So after Lilith ran, and sat by the bold Euphrates
Which ran past her eyes, as she dipped
In her toes, and let the water rush
O'er them,
Dreaming of something
Tasty....
Longing for Eden,
Fancying an apple,
Cursing Adam
And hiding from
Perdition as best
As she was able.
Watching reflected
That which had not yet happened,
And hazily seething
Wondering,
Scheming
Of some eternal Revenge,
Some precious petty payback,
Some tasty testing
Some wifely weaving
Some wrong-righting
Some heft
Having
Some deft
Tying up
Of some loose ends
And what not.
She was not
Motivated.
She was not
Yet
Angry enough
To do more
Than spend the
Day
Dreaming.
When riding over the horizon
Two hooded men galloping
Their horses frothing
Foaming, wishing
To be loping
Bit-straining
The white on their
Black coats forming
Eyes wildly staring
Open to the maximum
Sinews on their necks
Popping, hind quarters
Trembling,
The flint on their hooves
Sparking against the
Rocky boulders
Dislodging
Under the pressure
Of their storming.
And the faces
Of the Riders
Pale and gently
Glowing
Ghostly and
Transforming
Showing no
Emotion
As they headed
Towards Lilith
Dreaming
On the banks
Of the Euphrates
And her toes
Dripping clean
Water onto the
Granite flecked
Boulder
That she sat upon,
Setting it a
Sparkling
In the burning
Of the Sun.
Senoi and Sansenoi
Thundered up
Towards her
And a third on
The horizon
Stood watching
Above, all over,
And Lilith she
Didn't notice
Until they were right
Upon her,
And she choose
To stay a-sitting
On that large
Smooth granite
Boulder.
The two Angelic
Thugs
Those strongarm
Eloheim
Went to grab her
By the waist
And into the
Euphrates
Threaten
To throw her
Right in.
Sansenoi
Wound her
Copper hair
Around his
Marble fist,
And started to twist
And
Twist
And
Twist.
Lilith's pale
Features
Set into a scowl
And above her
Circled two of her
Friends -
A pair of
Fine screech owls.
Upon the Hill the largest
And the meanest of the three
Sammangelof, the Thirsty
Sat upon a tree.
Swooping down
Upon them,
Baring an Angelic
Knee, calloused
And a scarred
From praying
To the Almighty.
The knee he put upon
The small of Lilith's
Mighty back,
And as she started to
Squirm, he just
Pushed much harder
Back.
"Return to Adam,
Issha, Woman
Of the Eloheim!
Go back into
Eden
Go lay under him!"
And Lilith she knew
Only one way
Out of this
Sorry scene,
And it wasn't
Going back to Adam
To play domestic
Suicide Queen.
So she prepared to utter
The ineffable name,
She cried right out
Adonai!
The Angels
They all shuddered,
Sansenoi turned his head
And said to his
Bigger brother,
"Sammy, hey dude,
She wouldn't..."
And then she said
The other....
As Lilith she dropped
The big "A" Agalah bomb,
Pronouncing all the
Syllables
Singing that Holy Song
The Angels hid their faces
They sprang back away from
A blessed spring
That sprouted from the
Granite
And ran into a stream.
Lilith stood within it
She glowed:
Her skin it shone
Pure gold,
And in one hand
She held an Ankh
And in the other
They could see the world!
From her mouth flowered
Power
And from her feet ran
Blood.
And from her eyes
Shone glory
And they all shielded
Themselves from it.
"I will never return"
She uttered
With a voice
That shook the Earth.
And you three cannot
Make me, no matter
What you might
Have heard.
And I will go away from here,
The deal it has been done,
I will go tread the desert
I must go wither
Under the sun.
And my children
They must mostly die,
A thousand of them
A day.
And the tears that I
Cry
They will never go
Away.
And if I see your
Names,
I will not fear you,
I will not run away
But if you see me
You really should
Run, no matter
What your brothers
Say!"
The triad they were frozen
Right onto the ground.
Their feet they could not move
Their ears pinned to the sound
Of a Goddess grieving
Screaming for her young,
And bowed within that fountain
Streaming, pulsating
With the power of a thousand suns.
Her back it did break open
It cracked from north to south
And owl wings, sleek and brown
Sprouted from the gulf.
Her feet they began to circle
Backwards round her legs
and scabbed them both all over
Taloned and scaled,
Oh the sorrow!
Oh the dread!
Lilith watched her hair
Turn from red to brown,
Though a few hairs of
Golden thread along her
Back ran down.
And as she mourned her
Beauty,
As she was sorrowed and
Sadly ashamed,
She accepted the terms
And into
The darkness
She ran:
She ran again.
I have a sense of an autobiographical nature to this verse and reading…given what you spoke of before….it gives the reading authority.
Lililth is very inspiring. I will have to write a Song for her Jinn next, perhaps.
