Catfish Hunter by Lesser Bangs

Opening day baseball themed listening material. How can you not love an indie guitar band who call themselves Lesser Bangs? The nod to our gonzo journo hero is just about the hippest thing I have heard in a while. It is impossible not to love this song. Add to that the fact that it is a baseball metaphor song, featuring the late great Catfish Hunter, that first really big money free agent and Rollie Fingers – the A’s junkball reliever with the best moustache in the business, and you have yourself the coolest baseball song ever. Skills and style. Man I wish I had written those lyrics!

Happy Opening Day! I have a cup of tea, the game transmitted to my tv screen. Let’s play ball!
