Miss Molly’s Eye

I took my last penny

And gave it to my dolly

I plucked out her eye, poor Molly dolly

Everyone has got to pay

For their kicks as they can get ’em

A penny for an eye

A dollar for a life

The price is not right

The price is not right

I held out my hand

And it got bitten off

Cross my palm with silver

And pray not to die

Everyone’s got to pay for their

Mistakes as they make ’em

Please lend me a hand

Please give me a hand

The price is not right

The price is not right

I tried to build a life

Out of bits and pieces

I begged the price of success

How much happiness?

Everything you’ve got

And everything you ever will have

The price is much too high

The price is much too high

So I took to the road

Freedom’s a heavy load

No food to eat

No shoes on my feet

I was singing a happy song

When Molly came along

But poor Molly couldn’t see me

So Molly wouldn’t feed me

The price is not right

The price is not right

I met a handsome soldier

On the path I was treading

I caught his eye

He sat me on his thigh

I guess you have to steal

Your pleasures as you find ’em

The price is rarely right

The price is rarely right

I lay down my knife and set it on a stone

Lost the will to give, nothing left to give

All my sins are paid for

Nothing I am owing

No silver in my pocket

The rooster is crowing

I didn’t pay the price

I didn’t pay the price

I came across a river

The ferryman was waiting

He asked for a penny

But a penny I was lacking

Miss Molly sat serenely upon a silver cushion

Singing “you have to pay to ride

You always pay to ride.”

But the price is too high

The price is much too high

I rolled away my stone

Both naked and alone

I looked up at the sky

With my one remaining good eye

Everyone must make amends

For their crimes as they regret ’em

An eye for an eye

A tear for each dove’s cry

The price is just and right

The price is just and right

Miss Molly sat above

Devoid of loss and lust

Whole once again

Free from the troubles of men

She looked down from her cloud

She was so proud

Her heart filled with joy

As I tore out my remaining eye

She sang ” the price is just right

The price is just and right.”
